Great Wall denied the rumor of its cooperation with Jaguar Land Rover at a news conference in Beijing recently.

"The rumor is unfounded. Great Wall has no intention to build a joint venture with Jaguar Land Rover," Wang Fengying, president of the Great Wall Motor said at the news conference. Great Wall will persist in developing independent brands, but "we welcome foreign brands to cooperate with us and the Tianjin production base needs foreign investment," according to another manager of the domestic carmaker.

Jaguar Land Rover announced its plan to invest in China last year. It planned to put 100 million pounds ($163 million) to build a factory with an annual production capacity of 50,000 units in China. It has been in touch with Chinese automakers such as Geely, Chery, Great Wall, and so on for the possibility of a joint venture company.

Carl -Peter Forster, CEO of Indian automaker Tata, which took on Jaguar Land Rover in 2008, visited the production base of Great Wall in Tianjin on February 14.
