CPPCC member proposes to regulate auto exporting market
comment
Li Weidou, a CPPCC member, also general manager of Faw Motor Company, proposed at the Fourth Session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) and the Fourth Session of the 11th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Monday that the government should attach more importance to regulating the auto export market.
Li said that although the volume of auto exports reached 544,900 units last year, up 60 percent year-on-year, Chinese automakers are still less competitive than foreign counterparts in Japan, Korea, US and Europe. Instead, competition among domestic automakers are even fiercer in the export auto market.
In addition, excessive exportation is also a big problem among automakers. In 2010, about 853 Chinese automakers exported their models to foreign countries at export value below $ 500,000.
Li suggested in his proposal that the government should re-adjust the policy to focus more on network construction in foreign countries, and not on export volume.
The government should also cut the numbers of auto export agents so that the country can focus on one brand and make it world famous, Li added.
