Wang Dazong, general manager of Beijing Automobile Works Co., Ltd. (BAW) announced that the company plans to manufacture and sell 2 million vehicles during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), of which the self-developed passenger vehicles will account for 45 percent, the Auto Sina reported on Friday.
Although BAW achieved a series of successes in the last five years, such as acquiring Saab intellectual property, it is still an ambitious goal for the company as Chinese auto market will grow slower in the next few years, according to the experts.
An insider with BAW said the company is confident of Chinese auto market and market will keep developing.
The company also plans to perfect its passenger vehicle developing system and increase its competitiveness among self-developed automakers.
After acquiring part of Saab's intellectual property, BAW mastered the cutting-edge technologies of making engines and chassis with advanced levels.
It has already begun to develop new models based on the Saab platform and it plans to develop 20 new models in the next five years.
In addition, the company will also attach more importance to developing electric vehicles (EV), and expects to manufacture and sell 150,000 EV by 2015.
