Volkswagen China (VW) announced this week that the company's first electric vehicle(EV) team is officially launched in China and it will be placed at National Museum of China in Beijing to provide touring services, the Nanfang Daily reported Saturday.

The EV team contains three electric Golf and 10 hybrid Touareg. It is VW's first pilot project in the world, which aims to have consumers experience VW's prominent EVs and cutting-edge technologies.

Karl-Thomas Neumann, CEO of VW China said the company believes that it is a trend to develop electric vehicles and technologies for the sustainable development and it aims to occupy China's EV market by 2018, manufacturing affordable EVs for Chinese consumers.

VW will also launch the project in some other seven cities in China from this September.
