Toyota Motor said April 20 the current global recall of its Lexus and Prado sport-utility vehicle models doesn't involve the Chinese market, Dow Jones reported.
The Japanese carmaker announced on Tuesday that it will recall about 34,000 SUVs worldwide, including 9,400 units of its Lexus GX 460 SUV model in the US, to fix a problem with the stability control system. The recall also includes Toyota's Land Cruiser Prado models.
Toyota decided to recall these SUVs after US magazine Consumer Reports warned last week of the risk of the Lexus GX 460 rolling over during high-speed turns. The automaker has confirmed that some of the vehicles could potentially roll under certain conditions while going into curves.
In a statement posted on its Web site, Toyota Motor said the Prado models imported into the Chinese market or locally made in China don't have the stability control issues. The Lexus GX 460 hasn't been launched in China yet.
Last week, a Toyota spokesman in Beijing said the company was ready to launch the Lexus GX 460 in China within a few weeks, but the plan is put on hold now after the company decided to halt the sale of the vehicle in the US.
On Feb. 28, Toyota started its recall of 75,552 RAV4 SUVs manufactured in China to replace the faulty accelerator pedals for free, but sales of other Toyota models in China have not been affected.
