To grab more of the Russian auto market, Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor will build an assembly plant in Moscow next year.

According to the cooperation agreement Great Wall Motor has with its promoter in Russia, the plant will have an annual production capacity of 50,000 sedans with $25 million investment. The Chinese automaker also hopes Russia will become the springboard for its vehicles to enter the European market.

Great Wall Motor's sales in Russia dropped 72 percent to 1,496 units this year, compared with 6,238 and 8,236 units in 2007 and 2008, respectively.
