Toyota Motor Corp sold 63,700 units in China last month, up 35 percent from a year earlier, according to the company's spokesman in Beijing August 7.

This is the third consecutive month of double-digit vehicle sales growth for Toyota.

From January to July, Toyota sold 348,100 vehicles, a 5 percent increase year-on-year, said spokesman Hitoshi Yokoyama.

Now the company says it may exceed the 2008 sales level of 585,000 units by a relatively big margin. Toyota said earlier that it might miss its 2009 goal of matching sales due to a sharp slide in sales earlier this year.

The automaker aims to sell at least 650,000 vehicles in China in the second half of this year, said Etsuo Hattori, the firm's chief representative for China.

Toyota sold 284,000 units in China in the first six months of 2009, about as many as last year.
