According to Xinhua, auto imports into China declined 33.9 percent from a year earlier to 93,000 vehicles in the first four months.

The first quarter new-vehicle sales in China overstepped US sales to 2.67 million, making China the number one auto market in the world.

Best sellers are mainly 1.6 liter (or less) models which have captured 71 percent of the domestic market.

The country's demand for oversea cars has decreased, partially due to tax policy adjustments, such as consumption tax, fuel tax and purchase tax, which also inhibit the import of large vehicles.
