Car owners who replace their outdated or heavily polluting cars can get 4,000 yuan to 6,000 yuan as national vehicle subsidies from the Xi'an Bureau of Merchandise Trade.
Currently, the subsidies are only for owners of minivans and mid-sized passenger cars which have been driven for less than eight years, light- or medium-duty vehicles, and medium-sized passenger carrying vehicles (taxi cars are not included) which have been driven for less than 12 years. Vehicles which are not qualified for the Chinese discharge standard are also on the subsidy list.
From June 1 this year to May 31, 2010, if vehicle owners take their vehicles to the Xi’an Motor Vehicles Recycling Service Centre and buy a new car, they will get the subsidy.
Car owners must prove they are local residents and each car owner can only apply for one subsidy.
