Brazil has slapped higher prohibitive tariffs on imports of Chinese shoes and tires, as part of an ongoing anti-dumping dispute, media reported today.
The measures were in effect from Sept. 10, with $12.47 for each pair of shoes imported from China, the Brazilian ministry of industry said in a statement.
The second measure puts two series of tires from China under higher tariffs for up to five years, at a rate of $0.75 a kilo. These Chinese tires are used for small cars made in Brazil.
Meanwhile, the Brazilian government has decided to delay for six months its anti-dumping measure that is to prevent the country's automakers from importing China-made tires for buses and coaches.
The decision to introduce the new import duties comes amid allegations by Brazil that China is selling both items below the original market rates.
