Reuters Thursday cited unnamed senior Brilliance executives as saying the company had halted exports to Europe and "would look to start sales again in Europe with products that could meet new EU emissions standards sometime in the future."
China's indigenous automakers have been expanding overseas and their destinations have mainly been fledgling markets like South America, the Middle East, Central Asia and East Europe.
Zeng Zhiling, a senior market analyst with Global Insight's global automotive group, said it's not the right time for domestic automakers to enter overseas markets, particularly well-established markets, as auto markets there will not bottom out in the next few years.
"Japanese and Korean automakers reach out to other markets because they have absolute majority market share in their home countries. There is huge space for Chinese automakers, [which occupy only 31 percent of the sedan market], to expand in China," Zeng said, adding chances of success for joint venture automakers are higher.
