Renault plans to independently develop new dealers in China and will follow in Volvo and Land Rover's footsteps to gradually halt the regional distribution system as its vehicle sales pick up rapidly in the world's largest auto market, NBD.com.cn reported Tuesday, citing relevant sources in Renault's exclusive agency in China.
The French automaker will establish an independent sales company in Beijing next year, and after construction of the new dealership is completed, the number of Renault's dealerships in China will increase to more than 80. Renault is currently rebuilding its 52 dealerships across the country, said Chen Guozhang, CEO of Renault Greater China, adding that the reconstruction project is schemed to be finished before next February.
In addition, Renault will import the Megane CC, Laguna Clio, new Latitude, Fluence, new Scenic, etc.to China in 2011, Chen revealed, adding that an all-new electric sports car will be introduced as well. It, however, will not be sold in the market, but be sent to relevant departments and units in China for research purposes,
Renault has so far received nearly 200 orders for the new electric sports car, Chen said, emphasizing that the car will be the most high-level electric vehicle among all the vehicles the automaker has launched in the Chinese market.
China, from which Renault made most of its profits, has thereby become one of its most important markets in the world, Chen said, stressing that in view of the development scale and speed of China's auto market, it is impossible for Renault not to get involved.
Apart from that, Renault is planning to build a special committee in its headquarters in France to further explore the China market, Chen disclosed without giving any details.
At present, Renault and Nissan are setting up a car parts center in Shanghai, which should improve the automakers' after-sale services greatly, according to Chen.
