The latest data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers show that Japanese automakers' market share in China fell 20 percent in the first nine months of this year, making a serious impact on their development in the country, the Shanghai Morning Post reported Thursday.

The market share of Japanese automakers in China used to be 13.5 percent higher than that of German automakers, but it already dipped to 5 percent in the January to September period, sources said.

According to a survey of vehicle failures conducted by official legal Web site, wrating.com, among Chinese netizens, the Japanese cars actually had the lowest failure rate with around 36 percent, while China's own brand cars had the highest failure rate with over 60 percent, followed by the European cars with nearly 50 percent, and Korean and American cars with almost 40 percent each.

At this point, analysts concluded that the decline of Japanese automakers' market share in the China market was mainly caused by a large number of recent recalls by Toyota and other auto-making companies from Japan that have triggered consumers' doubts and worries on the cars' safety and quality.
