Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) will increase its dealership network with plans to open 50 dealerships in China this year and to expand to around 100 next year, the Beijing News reported Monday, citing the company's General Manager Wu Song.

GAC, a Chinese partner of Japan's Honda Motor Co, Toyota Motor Corp and Mitsubishi Motors Corp, will put a limit on the number of investors in the future while adding more dealerships. After launching its first self-developed sedan, Trumpche (Chuanqi in Chinese), this December, the automaker will launch a SUV and an A-Class car to the domestic market, Wu said.

The Guangzhou-based automaker will initially set up dealerships in some central cities and then expand to the surrounding areas.

In addition, GAC signed a memorandum of understanding with Mitsubishi Motors Corp on establishing a passenger car joint venture on November 5. The new venture, GAC-Mitsubishi, which will be set up in June 2011, will arise through restructuring the existing Mitsubishi-GAC-Changfeng partnership, GAC Changfeng.

The first model to be launched by GAC-Mitsubishi will be the ASX compact SUV (called Outlander Sport in the US), which is likely to be followed by Outlander EX, according to chinaautoweb.com.
