The Chinese auto market will undergo great changes next year, according to a senior official in the industry.

Shi Jianhua, vice secretary-general of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, said China will produce and sell 17 million vehicles by the end of 2010.

However, the future of the Chinese auto market is not that bright, as the government plans to cancel some preferential policies next year. Besides, in order to improve air quality in some heavily polluted cities, the nation has also decided to take a series of restrictions to limit the number of vehicles, which will have negative impacts on the auto market next year. Shi said it's still too early to decide whether the sales in 2011 will be as high as this year.

Rao Da, an expert in the passenger car market said that a year-on-year deficit in sales in the first quarter of next year will be normal as the first quarter this year was the peak for the automobile market.
