Toyota to fix 2,588 Prius in China

Toyota (China)'s spokesman Niu Yu said Tuesday that the company will repair 2,588 units of the Prius in China, after reports of a defect in its hybrid vehicles' cooling system.

Niu said the company would notify owners of the model's repair campaign in China on Tuesday, and start to repair defective models at no extra costs from December 3.

The Japanese automaker said Monday it would pay to fix 650,000 units of Prius produced between 2004 and 2007 worldwide.

The defect could cause the vehicle to overheat and lose power, though there have been no reports of accidents or injuries, said Toyota.
