The Audi A7 Sportback will officially enter the Chinese market in 2011 along with the new Audi A8, Dominique Boesch, general manager of the Audi Sales Division at FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co Ltd, told the Beijing Times Saturday.
The A7 Sportback reportedly is the production version of the 2009 Sportback Concept, unveiled at the 2009 Detroit International Auto Show. The car was initially released at the Munich Auto Show in July, and went on sale in Europe from September.
With sporty and aggressive design, the A7 Sportback will come with two gasoline engines: the 3.0TFSI and 4.2FTSI, and two diesel engines: the 3.0TDI and 4.2TDI.
The five-door A7 with the rakish roofline is positioned above the Audi A6 but below the A8 in a similar way as the A5 Sportback slots between the Audi A4 and A6, sources said.
The A7 Sportback will be imported into China around September 2011, a source at Audi said. The new A8 will first be launched in Hong Kong and then hit the mainland market in February next year.
Zhang Xiaojun, executive vice-president of FAW-VW Audi Sales Division, recently said the company will introduce all the Audi models to China by 2015 as part of the plan to achieve the 1 million sales target in three years.
Separately, FAW-Volkswagen, a passenger-car joint venture between First Automobile Works (FAW) and Volkswagen AG, launched the 2011 Audi TT in the domestic market last Saturday.
