FAW-Volkswagen will postpone its car supply to Beijing auto market for January next year, worrying that the capital city will launch new car registration limit policies at that time, according to local dealers.
The automaker has announced to delay supplying cars to 4S shops in Beijing from January 2011. Besides, the sales plan for the next year is still waiting for final decision, which is likely to worsen the situation of vehicle shortage.
"I have to turn to another auto brand for not being able to get a single car of Volkswagen's for five months," a customer named Li Guang complained.
According to Li, his first choice was VW's CC. However, two months after paying a subscription of 20,000 yuan ($3001.52) without any sign of getting the car, he turned to the Golf 6 in September, which he had to wait for six months to put his hands on. "I was not in a hurry at that time, and the Golf 6 is more economical than the CC, so I changed my mind." "However, the rumor that Beijing will publish a car registration limit policy next year made me eager to get a car by the end of this year. But it was too late, even the Magotan 2.0T has been sold out in the whole city." Li then finally decided to look for other auto brands.
Other auto brands in Beijing also face inventory shortages. Sales of GAC-Honda's City in Beijing in November reached the peak, and local dealers had to deploy vehicles from other cities, according to an insider. Besides, the company has decided to reduce concessions. Dongfeng Peugeot and Dongfeng Yueda Kia are also planning to reduce concessions.
