The Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition kicked off Tuesday in South China. Major Japanese automakers are showcasing their latest models, in a bid to increase their auto sales next year in China, the world's largest auto market.
Japanese automakers are eyeing China's fast-developing auto market. At the start of the Guangzhou car show, they announced their China sales plans for 2011.
Nissan Motor hopes to sell over 1 million units in the country next year. Toyota has set a sales target of more than 900 thousand. And Honda is next, with 730 thousand units. Honda has even developed a new sedan tailored to Chinese consumers.
This year's Guangzhou auto show has attracted some 80 car manufacturers from eight countries.
Toshiyuki Shiga, COO of Nissan Motor Company, said, "We should humbly accept the fact that the Chinese manufacturers are developing, and take measures to survive in the market."
The Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group, that has joint ventures with Toyota and Honda, displayed its first original car. And visitors are showing strong interest.
A visitor said, "This car combines the advantages of foreign vehicles and the features of Chinese cars."
Fifty cars are making their debut at the Guangzhou auto show, and cutting-edge technology is in focus.
