After taking over the automaking susidaries of aircraft maker AVIC, the new Changan Auto will not give up production of vehicles carrying the Hafei and Changhe brands, the China Car Times said, citing a Changan executive.

Zheng Changjiang, the new Chang'an public relations officer, expressed that brands like Hafei are mid-level in China, so its positioning is pretty good, especially in some northern small- to medium-size cities.

Since Chang'an announced its plans in early November to take over the AVIC carmakers - Hafei Auto and Changhe Auto, there have been many rumors in the media that Changan plans to abandon their recently acquired Changhe and Hafei brands.

In 2009, Changan Auto Group's sales first broke the mark of 1.4 million units, up 63 percent, and including sales (of 463,000 units) of the newly acquired Hafei and Changhe brands, Changan's total sales last year reached 1,863,000 vehicles, closer to sales of Dongfeng Motor Group, China's No. 3 automaker.

The restructuring of Hafei and Changhe brands will boost Changan's annual production capacity to nearly 2 million units. The new Changan aims to sell more than 2.6 million vehicles by 2012, targeting sales of 5 million units by 2020.
