Chinese automaker BYD is not included in "the Federation of the Top 10 Electric Vehicle Companies", and it has no interest in the group either.

"I have never heard of this organization before," said Xu An, BYD's public relations manager. "BYD has already helped the government in the process of setting the standards for electric vehicles."

"The federation was formed among the companies with the largest sales," explained Dong Yang, general secretary of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers and a co-founder of the group. Based on this criteria, BYD, with its low-end products, are not qualified to be a member of this group.

Experts also believe that it is those large enterprises that will move the development of electric cars forward. "Small businesses  can hardly meet the standard," said expert Wang Binggang, a car consultant.

"The Federation of the Top 10 Electric Vehicle Companies" includes: Saic Motor, China FAW Group Corporation, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, Chana Company, Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group Co., Ltd., Beijing Automobile Works, China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Corp., Brilliance Auto, Chery Company, and JAC Motors.
