BYD will make its first sale of lithium battery packs to a Chinese automaker whose name was not released, according to the agreement.
"We must obey the rules since we have signed a confidentiality agreement," said Wang Jianjun, vice president of BYD sales. But a well-informed person revealed that the mystery company is one of the top three carmakers in China, namely Saic Motor, FAW Group Corp., or Dongfeng. The person also said the battery pack will be used in the company's hybrid cars and electric vehicles.
The ironic phosphate lithium battery pack produced by BYD is heavy but safer, reaching more than 2,000 rechargeable times and 600,000 kilometers. Volkswagen and BYD have agreed to cooperate in electric vehicles but have not yet signed a contract.
