Chinese carmaker Chery Auto launched its Rely brand earlier this week and is set to release the Rely V5 as the first model of this brand, China Car Times said.
While the Riich is Chery's upmarket brand, Rely will be Chery's MPV/Business brand, under which a range of MPVs and other 'business vehicles' are expected to be launched over the next few months.
The first Rely vehicle to be released is the Reely V5, which basically looks like the old Chery V5 7-seater wagon, but actually it has undergone some slight rhinoplasty (plastic surgery of the nose) and is equipped with a nice new diesel engine.
The latest diesel engine from Chery, a 1.9 TDDI high compression diesel engine, will find its way into the Rely V5 alongside 1.8-liter, 2.0-liter gasoline engines with 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic gearboxes for choice.
The Rely V5's pricing is set rather low, with the cheapest starting at 100,980 yuan ($14,800), rising to 140,980 yuan for the top model, according to China Car Times.
Chery Auto has also revealed that their new Rely brand is actually an acronym, standing for Reliable, Economic, Leading, and Young, an all-around goal the carmaker seeks to achieve.
Of Chery Auto's three brands, the Chery brand includes QQ, Fulwin, Cowin (Qiyun), Tiggo, and A series, and the Riich brand will focus on the G series (sedans), M series (minicars), X series (SUVs) and Z series (race cars).
