Chery denies interest in buying Fiat plant in Sicily

Chery Automobile said Monday that it is not in talks with Fiat to buy the Italian automaker's plant in Sicily.

La Repubblica reported earlier that the Chinese automaker might buy the factory.

At the same time, the largest independent automaker by sales volume in China announced plans to invest $500 million to build a plant in Turkey, according to the Beijing News.

Jin Yibo, Chery's spokesman, refused to comment on the report, only saying the company's sales in Turkey have been good since it entered the market in 2008.
