Geely Chairman and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) member Li Shufu had four suggestions for the auto industry, according to his proposal entitled "Preparations for the Coming of Auto Society".

Among his recommendations, Li suggests establishing a research group to study the simultaneous development of the automobile industry, economy, society and environment.

To minimize losses, the leader of Geely thinks the government should classify the auto industry as a strategic one, and set clear and far-sighted goals for the sector. He believes that will help boost the economy by expanding domestic demand.

Li also urged the government to set mandatory fuel economy rules to effectively reduce the average energy use of vehicles in order to enter the market.

He advises every city in China to have an integrated plan taking into consideration the priority of public transportation versus private vehicles, and not just limiting the number of private cars on the roads.

Finally, Li hopes the government could give auto companies more autonomy, by approving the relaxation of restrictions on investments in the auto industry, and encouraging more competition in the auto market.
