Performance of Peugeot 408 - China
XCAR.com.cn
When I drive the car in my daily driving mode, the engine is very quiet, the acceleration process seems smooth, and the start-up feels not sluggish. Its heavy body does not give too much burden to the 2.0L engine in the starting process. The gear box does its job step by step -- no big pause occurs during the shifting.
When over 3,000 rpm, the engine starts to release noises. The acceleration feeling appears at the same time, but not as strong as expected.
The steering wheel is light in low speed and turns heavier with the car speeding up. The direction of the wheel is not that accurate and the vibration is not full-transmitted.
Peugeot 408 is equipped with half-independent torsion beam suspension, which seems not advanced, but the setting of the suspension system is not bad. Compared to any of the Peugeot cars made in China, 408 focuses more on the comfort -- it can filter out most of the vibration.

After starting the car, the engine trembles little, the throttle responds quickly, and the acceleration is evident.
Peugoet 408 adopts a half-independent torsion beam rear suspension system, with stabilizing bars set in both the front and rear. The most impressive thing the car gave me, after testing on different roads, is its comfort -- relatively large interior space and the comfort-oriented suspension setting makes me enjoy a lot.
408 also does a good job on sound-proofing, especially on outside noises. However, when in high speed, 408 reveals some flaws -- the power is less strong than in the starting process. Therefore, the car seems more suitable for city cruising or people who pursue comfort.

The power is insufficient, and the shifting feels not smooth.
Maybe because of the transmission, the acceleration of the 408 is not very acute, and the throttle responds tardily, especially in overtaking..
During driving, the soft suspension can absorb most of the vibrations from the road and the light steering meets most drivers' habits. But the direction of the steering wheel is not accurate.
