Preview : 2010 BMW5-series revealed
The front-end will likely feature a more upright kidney grille in order to comply with stronger pedestrian protection laws, while the headlights won't be stretched out like on the current model. BMW's characteristic interaction between convex and concave shapes will still be emphasized, and will be clearly indicated in the engine hood's lines.
The rear roofline and C-pillar connects more fluidly to the trunk lid, which is now devoid of the Bangle-butt that was so universally derided with the E60 model. Parts of the tail-lights continue onto the trunk lid in order to strengthen the impression of width. We must say, this design is very pleasing and if BMW's car looks anything like this, we sure it'll lure back any customers loss to its rivals because of the controversial styling of the former E60.

2010 BMW 5-Series - Bottom Line
The 2010 5-Series sedan and wagon bear the hallmarks of an older school of BMW styling-one that's being left behind. With elaborate curves and sculpturing on the body sides, the 5-Series looks disjointed and complicated from some angles. It's far from the conservative streak seen in BMWs past, and it's been controversial on this car and on others sharing its theme: the 7-Series, the 6-Series, and the first-generation Z4. Wagons look a bit more balanced.

2010 BMW 5 Series Sedan On Sale In Australia From June
Moving away from Bangle's polarising design, the headlights of the new 5 Series have lost the upturned outer edges of the outgoing model, while BMW's trademark kidney grille gets a similar treatment to the 7 Series and the upcoming X1. Compared to the outgoing model, the new 5 Series Touring appears more muscular, more sculpted and more athletic. Subtle rear wheelarch flares prevent the car's flanks from looking too slabby, and a strong character line runs from the front wheelarches to the taillights. BMW describes the new 5 Series' rear-end styling as "muscular". Tail-lights are shaped similar to the 3 Series, and the rear deck bears a familiar protruding lip.

The car features a wide body styling kit which consists of new front and rear spoilers, new side skirts, a rear diffuser made from carbon fiber and a small carbon boot lid wing.

BMW 5 Series (2010)The new 5 looks sleeker than the outgoing model and in the 'flesh' much more like a 3 Series Coupe than a 5. This is mostly due to the car's very long wheelbase. The new 5's styling is interesting on closer examination and still true to Chris Bangle's striking original. The aluminium bonnet features muscular creases and the car's side bodylines make the car even fresher than the original Bangle 5 that still is today a very modern looking car. The front wings and doors are also made of lightweight aluminium.
