Lifan to launch first SUV in Feb

Lifan Industry (Group) Co., Ltd will launch its first sport utility vehicle (SUV) this month in planned quantity with price estimations under 100,000 yuan ($15,165), the Beijing Morning Post reported Tuesday.

An insider said that the company has manufactured hundreds of sample cars, which are undergoing test-drive under the standard of quality first.

The SUV features a 1.8L VVT engine, and adopts a cutting-edge technology called variable valve timing (VVT).

With 100 kW of maximum power and maximum torque of 171Nm, the model could realize a combination of high power and low energy consumption.

The model is designed as an economic city compact vehicle, since it is the company's first SUV in the Chinese auto market.

Lifan also plans an expansion in the overseas market in the future.
