Engine maker Rolls-Royce will invest more than 700 million Singapore dollars (about 487 million) to build a new factory in Singapore, local media reported Tuesday.

According to TV broadcaster Channel NewsAsia, the factory will produce wide chord fan blades, which are used in military and commercial aircraft engines.

The new plant is expected to create 500 new jobs, bringing the total number of people employed in Singapore by Rolls-Royce to around 2,000.

The report said that the plant will be located at the Seletar Campus site, adding that construction of the facilities will begin in the first quarter of next year.
