Peugeot plans to resume production in Indonesia

French automaker, Peugeot, mulled to resume its car production in Indonesian plant, a senior of Peugeot's Indonesian partner said here.
"We planned to set up an assembling plant in Indonesia. The plant would commence the operation no later than 2012," the Detik.com quoted Friday Constantinus Herlijoso, the president director of Astra Indonesia Peugeot (AIP).
He said that AIP is undergoing talks with Peugeot headquarters in France regarding the plan.
Speaking on the sidelines of New Peugeot 407 launching here on Thursday, Herlijoso said that Peugeot's Indonesian plant is expected to become the production basis for Southeast Asian market.
With the locally-assembled cars, AIP expects to win the lucrative Indonesian car market amid increasing economic growth prediction in the following years.
After commenced its operation in 1980s, Peugeot assembling plant in Indonesia, ran by Indonesia's largest carmaker PT Astra International, stopped its operation in the last few years due to the poor sale.
The Indonesian assembling plant produced small and middle sized Peugeot sedans from the types of 504, 505, 206, 405 and 406.
