Toyota to stop California plant in March

Toyota is considering stopping production at its California assembly plant in March 2010 following General Motors Co.'s decision to abandon the joint venture, according to a report from Japan's Asahi Shimbun.

The largest automaker in the world said it would decide by the end of August whether to pull out of the New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. (NUMMI). GM classified the 25-year-old plant as a bad asset.

Toyota has started to inform its main suppliers about the plans, the Asahi said.
