South Korea's top automaker Hyundai Motor Group said it would hire 32 percent more new workers domestically than initially planned in the second half amid a recovery in Asia's fourth-largest economy.

The group, which includes Hyundai Motor Co and Kia Motors Corp, said in a statement late Wednesday it would take on 3,300 new workers in the second half, 800 more than planned, with most to be delegated to the research and development of environment-friendly cars.

The group will hire a total of 4,800 workers this year, 300 more than in 2008.

The plan comes as the country's economy is recovering faster than expected and Hyundai and Kia enjoy higher sales, helped by a weaker won and growing appetite for fuel-efficient smaller cars.
