President of Renault-Nissan, Charles Ghosn

Renault–Nissian will focus its strategies on the development of the Nissan brand, and there are no plans to produce Renault cars using Chinese independent techniques before it developed its Nissan brand successfully, Charles Ghosn, president of Renault-Nissan, said Thursday. It means plans for domestic integration will be delayed.

Ghosn said the decision will help Renault-Nissan gain profits. Although Renault and Nissan produce vehicles using the same platform in India, this will not be copied in China. At the same time, he believes the output of the Nissan brand in China doesn"t satisfy the needs of the market, so the Nissan brand should develop itself in China.

Ghosn promised that the Nissan brand would accelerate to improve its output in the Chinese market, and the new output would come from the second factory, which Nissan-DFM previously announced would be built in Huadu District, Guangzhou, where Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company is located.

Early in 2004, Renault had announced the plan to produce Renault cars by using Chinese independent techniques, but because there was no agreement on where they should build the factory, the plan was scrapped in 2005.
