Tim Lee, right, sits next to Ray Young, GM's chief financial officer, during a press conference in Warren, Michigan, in August 2009.

US-based General Motors said Tim Lee was appointed vice president for global manufacturing and labor relations to manage its international operations on Monday. The appointment is also part of GM's leadership changes since Fritz Henderson, CEO of GM, resigned on December 2.

GM Chairman Ed Whitacre, who has taken over as interim CEO, announced Lee's appointment.

The firm said Lee will be the head of GM's Shanghai international headquarters replacing Nick Reilly, who has been promoted as president of the GM European division.

Lee will lead GM's Asia, Latin America, Africa and Middle East operations.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge to manage GM's business in the world's key emerging markets and have a successful cooperation with our partners," said Lee.
