Toyota halts sales, production of 8 models

Toyota Motor Sales US said January 26 that it is suspending sales of eight models that were recalled last week for sticking accelerator pedals that can stick and cause the vehicle to speed up unintentionally.

The Japanese automaker will also halt production of those models in North America while seeking a solution to the problemfix for them.

Toyota recalled 2.3 million vehicles this month over concerns that the accelerator pedals could stick. It recalled 4.26 million vehicles in September 2009 over concerns that accelerator pedals could get stuck in floor mats and cause unintended acceleration.

2009-2010 Corolla
2009-2010 Matrix
2005-2010 Avalon
Certain 2007-2010 Camry
2010 Highlander
2007-2010 Tundra
2008-2010 Sequoia
