Chrysler Group LLC has begun a three-year-cooperation with NASA to share information in several key technology areas which both are researching.

The partnership, which was announced Tuesday, allows the two to share information about mobility systems, wireless technologies, robotics, energy storage, radar, materials engineering, and battery systems.

They plan to set up a research team made up of a specialist from each organization for each of the technology areas, according to Chrysler.

Chrysler said it's using NASA's research in surface navigation sensors for backup warning systems, lane departure warning systems and adaptive cruise control.

The alliance is part of NASA's Innovative Partnerships program, which coordinates research between the space agency and other organizations interested in similar areas of knowledge.

The deal with Chrysler is for technology-sharing only; there are no financial terms attached to it, according to NASA.
