Fiat chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo is stepping down after seven years pilot-ing the vehicle giant through tough times, the company said Tuesday, but did not confirm reports that vice chairman John Elkann, the 34-year-old grandson of historical Fiat boss Gianni Agnelli, will succeed him in the position.
