Japanese automakers saw global production of vehicles rise in May on increased domestic demand and particularly rising demand in Asia and the US, according to official data released Monday.
Toyota Motor Corp., the world's top automaker by sales, increased output by 28 percent in May from a year earlier at 568, 004 units, with exports also rising 15 percent in the recording month at 115,280 units.
Domestic sales continued an upward trend for the 10th successive month, the firm's data revealed Monday.
Production at Honda Motor Co., Japan's second-largest automaker, increased 42.8 percent to 278,543 vehicles in May, marking a 6th straight month of increase -- further underlining a rebound for Japanese automakers as demand picks up.
Meanwhile output at Nissan Motor Co., maker of the popular Fuga series, shot up 41.9 percent in May from a year earlier to a new record of 309,287 vehicles produced.
