GM Chevrolet 2012 Sonic
By making its world debut of a new subcompact model, the Sonic, Chevrolet seeks to reverse its brand image as a muscle vehicle maker to more of one based on fuel efficiency. Competing with Ford Fiesta, Toyota Fit and Honda Yaris, the new vehicle will be known on the streets of the US, Canada and Mexico as the Sonic. In other markets it will be called Aveo.
The car will have two engine offerings: the sporty 1.4-liter turbocharged engine linked to a six-speed stick and a 1.8-liter engine paired with either a six-speed automatic transmission or a five-speed manual.
Equipped with flashy technologies such as XM satellite radio and Bluetooth connectivity, the 2012 Sonic will go on sale later this year worldwide in two body styles – sedan and hatchback. Shanghai GM is expected to launch this vehicle in the first half of the year in China.
Also GM's 2011 Chevrolet Volt received the North American Car of the Year Award on Monday. The Volt, which can run in electric and gas modes, is expected to go on sale this year in China.
