Merrill Lynch reported in its annual Car Wars study Wednesday that Ford Motor Co was expected to gain more of the US share market than both General Motors Co and Chrysler in the next four years.
The study found that Ford's US market share could rise to 18 percent over the next four years, while the new GM market share will decline to 15 or 16 percent.
Ford is the only US automaker not to go through bankruptcy protection. GM emerged last week as a much smaller automaker and Chrysler was acquired by a group led by Italy's Fiat SpA in June.
Merrill Lynch raised its price objective on Ford stock to $8.75, and predicted a 5 percent drop in GM's market share and a 6 percent drop for Chrysler.
