Toyota forms comprehensive marketing co.

Japanese automaker Toyota said Wednesday its new president Akio Toyoda will lead a subsidiary to coordinate marketing and advertising around the world.

Toyota's global sales plunged 26 percent in the first half of this year as the recession hit demand for cars.

The subsidiary, which hasn't started operations, will begin on Jan. 1, 2010.

Company spokeswoman Ririko Takeuchi said the move makes Toyota's marketing and advertising operation a free-standing entity empowered to make decisions faster.
