Chinese tech firm Xiaomi Corp discharged the company's vice president as the senior executive violated regulations of China's Public Security Administration, the company confirmed with the Global Times on Friday.
In an internal letter issued on Thursday night, the company's human resources department said Wang Lingming, vice president and head of the company's African business, was discharged, after he was detained for five days by the public security authority in an unspecified location for violating the 44th article of the Public Security Administration.
The firm did not give more details in the letter. The 44th article deals with the matter of obscenity, or deliberate exposure of his body in a public place. Those who have such behavior will be detained between five and 10 days. Meanwhile, if the target of obscene behavior is with mental illness or disability, or less than 14 years old, the person will be detained for between 10 to 15 days.
"Obeying the law and behaving with integrity are basic requirements of the company," the letter said.
A Xiaomi spokesperson would not make further comments on the case when contacted by the Global Times on Friday.
Wang was transferred to the international business division in Xiaomi in 2019, and the company approved in January his promotion as the head of the company's African business, according to media reports.
