Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday tracking gains made on European bourses overnight.

As of 9:15 am, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 65.19 points, or 0.31 percent, from Monday to 21,247.77.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 3.14 points, or 0.20 percent, at 1,550.14.

Pulp and paper, precision instrument and electric appliance-oriented issues comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
