German Chancellor Angela Merkel was shaking visibly at the welcoming ceremony of Ukraine's new President Volodymyr Zelensky here on Tuesday.
At the ceremony with military honors for Zelensky, the 64-year-old Merkel began shaking all over her body while the German anthem was being played.
The trembling had clearly subsided as Merkel later walked along the red carpet with the Ukrainian president and Merkel later dismissed concerns about her health at the joint press conference.
"In the meantime, I have drunk at least three glasses of water. That was apparently missing. In this respect, I am very well," she said.
Zelensky also responded to the incident, saying he had been standing next to her during the incident and "she was completely safe," he added.
The German Chancellor had already shown such trembling on similar circumstances before, reported the German press agency (DPA). Both water shortage in combination with great heat had been mentioned as causes.
According to the German weather service (DWD), temperatures in the capital Berlin were exceeding 30 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
