A company in East China says it has developed a trash bin that can "eat" leftover food and "spit out" organic fertilizer in just one day.
One of the ultra fast composting trash bins has been installed in the office of a training school in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province and a video report by Zhejiang Daily says employees scrap the organic leftovers from lunch into it every day.
When they arrive at the office the next day, the trash bin has already turned their leftover into fertilizer, which a staff member said is used on the plants and flowers in the entire office building.
The machine is only slightly larger than a typical trash or paper recycling bin. It uses heaters to warm the waste which is being stirred by interior baffles. It also contains a deodorizer that can eliminate stinky smells with the push of a button.
Cai Yunhua, manager of the company that invented the trash bin, said maintaining the correct temperature and humidity are two key factors.
Cai said his company conducted about 30 experiments over a year before finding the perfect solution.
Netizens gave the company a lot of compliment.
