A man in South China's Guangdong Province must have been shocked to learn the snails he enjoyed at multiple dinners in 2004 nearly killed him after a 12-centimeter parasite was found in this brain.
Neurosurgeon Gu Youming in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong picked out the thin and long parasite from the brain of a man surnamed Wang, 36, during a surgery that took more than two hours, a video posted by the Knews on Friday reported.
Wang recalled that in 2004 he often ate fried river snails with his boss who loved them.
A year later Wang began to feel nauseous and pins and needles in his arms and legs and even had convulsions.
Wang was finally diagnosed with a parasitic infection in 2018 and was told if it wasn't removed it would continue to "eat" his brain that would lead to death. Wang had been told to take alternative cures, but in September he had another seizure and decided to have the surgery.
