China's Twitter-like platform Sina Weibo on Monday published a detailed definition of "harmful information on current affairs," including information posing a threat to national unity and sovereignty, and defaming national heroes.
Harmful information about current affairs also includes information instigating illegal assembly, parades or demonstrations, along with information that disturbs social order and the spreading of rumors.
In July, a man in Yulin, Northwest China's Shaanxi Province was sentenced to two years in jail after he insulted people who died putting out a fire.
Sina Weibo also announced on Monday that it had closed seven accounts for disseminating "harmful information about current affairs."
Sina Weibo pointed out that posts and comments by all Weibo users, including We Media, should comply with the Provisions for the Administration of Internet Information Services. Content that violates the provisions is not allowed to be produced, published or spread.
