Huawei on November 22 launched Singapore's first 5G-powered artificial intelligence (AI) innovation lab at Changi Business Park to cultivate talent with an investment of $10 million, the Economic Daily reported on Monday.
The lab aims to carry out innovative research and strengthen the business cooperation between China and Singapore.
Equipped with a 5G network, the lab enables experiments for 5G facilities and AI research, and is open to government agencies, high school institutions and small and medium-sized enterprises.
Key projects displayed in the lab range from those concerning traffic and education to the services industry. They include a smart unmanned vehicle for food and package delivery, and AI-powered electric scales that can recognize over 50 types of fruits and vegetables when they are placed on it.
Huawei has also signed an MoU with Nanyang Technological University to train talent in AI, cloud computing and 5G, with the aim to train around 1,000 AI developers in Singapore over the next three years.
