Several street lamps on a commercial district of Wuhan, Central China's Hubei Province, have become a hit with local residents and tourists thanks to their convenient wireless phone charging functions, Beijing News reported Tuesday.

While enjoying the convenience that they bring, security departments reminded people to watch their phones to prevent theft.

Many local residents and tourists were eager to come and try out these high-tech street lamps.

Local authorities revealed that there are about 60 such lamps on the street, with each lamp equipped with two wireless charging ports.

"These are super-fast charging ports," a staff member of the city construction bureau said.

"Phones can be charged to 70-80 percent full in only 15-20 minutes."

Staff reminded people to always keep an eye on their phones due to the large flows of people on the street and around the lamp posts.

The topic has attracted 27.7 million views with nearly 4,000 discussions on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo.

Many netizens from other places expressed amazement at the new utilities in Wuhan, while calling for their own cities to introduce the lamps as soon as possible.
