Youdao, an online education subsidiary of China's internet giant NetEase, has launched the third version of its Translation Pen on Tuesday. The NetEase Youdao Dictionary Pen 3.0, is aimed at China's rapidly growing online education industry.

The pen 3.0 translates English into Chinese with just one click and a recognition accuracy of 95.5 percent. It can translate English newspapers, an owners' manual and instructions on a medicine bottle.

"The 'click and check' function makes searching words as fast as a blink of an eye," Wu Yinghui, senior vice president and product manager of NetEase, said at the launch event held in Beijing on Tuesday.

The function was achieved through Youdao' s self-developed super-sensing optical system, which the firm said is a world's first.

The previous version of the pen has long been the electronic dictionary sales champion during China's double 11 online shopping festival in November.

The pen has a specially designed interactive reading function.

Executives said the pen is for sale in North America on Amazon.

"We target those who are willing to learn Chinese or English in North America," Zhou Feng, Chief Executive Officer at Youdao, told the Global Times on Tuesday.

Youdao posted a net revenue of 896 million yuan ($136.36 million) in the third quarter of 2020, up 159 percent year-on-year. Sales revenue reached 676 billion yuan, a surge of 368.9 percent compared with the same time last year.

"As the online education market quickly expands and become more competitive, our unique product matrix, comprising online courses, intelligent devices, and learning apps, enables us to better address customer needs in innovative ways and to achieve organic growth. We will continue to scale delivering high quality products and services to more students, to propel our long-term growth," Zhou said.
